The Reservoir website is a water resource information centre for the catchment forums that operate within the Vaal Barrage and Vaal Dam catchments of the Upper Vaal Water Management Area (WMA). This website has been developed to specifically facilitate communication and dissemination of information between stakeholders and role-players participating within all catchment forums of the Upper Vaal WMA.

Catchment Management Forums and other structures of the Upper Vaal Water Management Area

Vaal Barrage Catchment Forums

The Vaal Barrage Catchment covers an area of approximately 9,000 square kilometers. It stretches from Roodepoort in the west to Springs in the east, and from the Johannesburg CBD in the north to the Vaal River at Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark in the south.

Vaal Dam Catchment Forums

The Vaal Dam Catchment covers an area of approximately 52,000 square kilometers. It stretches from Heilbron in the west to Ermelo in the east, and from the Vaal Dam in the north to Bethlehem and Harrismith in the south.

Other Management Structures

The Upper Vaal Reference Group and the Vaal Barrage Catchment Executive Committee (VBCEC) are no longer operational as those management functions provided intially by these two structures will now be expected to fall under the auspices of the Vaal-Orange Catchment Management Agency (CMA).
